University of Tasmania enhances integration capabilities with Adaptiv’s Azure Integration Services

Client Overview

The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is one of Australia’s oldest universities, founded in 1890. As a public research university, UTAS plays a crucial role in higher education, serving students from across Australia and internationally. However, like many large institutions, UTAS faced significant challenges with its IT infrastructure and integration capabilities, particularly around the systems that were vital for managing student information, financials, and human resources.

The Challenge

UTAS was working with an outdated integration platform, TIBCO, which was no longer supported and severely limiting the university’s ability to innovate and maintain operational agility. The lack of platform support introduced risk to key processes, while the inability to streamline various technology systems caused pain points across different departments. These inefficiencies were holding back productivity and hindering the delivery of critical services.

Recognising the need for independent, expert advice, UTAS sought Adaptiv’s support to assess potential integration platform replacements. The university needed a clear recommendation that would align with its organisational goals and provide a roadmap for the future.

The Solution

Adaptiv engaged with UTAS to conduct a series of process workshops designed to assess the current state of integration within the university and identify key pain points. The workshops gathered business and technical insights, allowing Adaptiv to fully understand UTAS’s requirements and its existing integration challenges. This collaborative approach enabled UTAS to gain clarity on its needs and potential solutions.

Following the process workshops, Adaptiv held a series of technology-focused sessions where they worked with UTAS to define the criteria for a new platform, including performance, cost, and alignment with existing skillsets. These workshops resulted in the development of a shortlist of potential integration platforms. Each platform was rigorously assessed against the agreed criteria.

After reviewing and evaluating four potential platforms, Adaptiv recommended Microsoft Azure Integration Services as the best fit for UTAS. The recommendation was based on the platform’s robust capabilities, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with the university’s existing technical skillset. Alongside this, Adaptiv provided a detailed roadmap outlining the steps needed to establish Azure Landing Zones and to begin implementing the integration technology.

Business Outcomes

As a result of Adaptiv’s engagement, UTAS gained a much deeper understanding of its current state of integration, as well as a clear direction for future improvements. The process workshops and platform assessment led to several recommendations for streamlining operations and improving productivity through better integration.

The university was equipped with a well-defined roadmap for transitioning to Azure Integration Services, which will enhance its technological agility and allow it to scale in the future. With the guidance provided by Adaptiv, UTAS can now approach its digital transformation with confidence, knowing it has selected a solution that fits both its current needs and future growth ambitions.
