GIB: API Integration & eCommerce Optimisation for Fletcher Building

Client Overview

GIB, a division of Fletcher Building Limited, is one of New Zealand’s most recognised manufacturers and distributors of building materials.

To modernise its digital channels and improve performance across key customer and product journeys, GIB adopted MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and Solace PubSub+ to create a unified, scalable, and real-time integration foundation that connects systems such as Salesforce, SAP Commerce, SAP ERP, PIM, and Identity Management.

The Challenge

GIB faced a fragmented eCommerce ecosystem across multiple business units, resulting in duplicated and inconsistent customer data. The existing architecture relied heavily on legacy systems that were difficult to scale or maintain. These limitations were particularly constraining during the Covid pandemic, when the need for fast, reliable, contactless digital interactions became critical.

The Solution

Adaptiv designed and delivered a modern API-led, event-driven integration architecture using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and Solace PubSub+. MuleSoft provided a robust foundation of reusable APIs that standardised how GIB connected to core systems, enabling consistent, secure, and simplified data exchange across Salesforce, SAP Commerce, SAP ERP, and supporting platforms. This API-led approach eliminated duplication of logic, reduced integration complexity, and allowed new digital channels to be introduced far more easily.

To achieve real-time responsiveness and high performance, Solace PubSub+ was introduced as the event streaming backbone. Solace enabled a decoupled event mesh where product changes, customer updates, and order events could flow instantly between systems without the delays inherent in batch or point-to-point integrations. MuleSoft and Solace worked together to ensure the eCommerce experience remained reliable even during periods of heavy demand.

Business Outcomes

The new API-led, event-driven architecture delivered a dramatic increase in digital transactions, with online sales and self-service interactions far exceeding initial targets.

With faster and more reliable eCommerce capabilities, GIB strengthened its competitive position in the construction materials market, outperforming competitors.

The success of the solution prompted Fletcher Building to extend the strategy across its Australian operations, confirming the scalability and repeatability of the architectural approach.

    Conclusion

With Adaptiv’s expertise in API integration and eCommerce platforms, GIB transformed its fragmented systems into a cohesive, customer-centric digital solution, driving business growth and operational excellence.

This case study highlights how Adaptiv’s solutions can help large enterprises like Fletcher Building optimise their digital transformation, integrating complex systems for enhanced performance.
